Kruger Shalati, Train on the Bridge

Converted train parked on a bridge · Selati Bridge at Skukuza Rest Camp, over the Sabie River · Kruger Shalati

Top-end Inside the park Ownership unconfirmed

A converted train parked for good on the historic Selati railway bridge above the Sabie River at Skukuza, with 24 carriage suites looking down on the water. SANParks notes the spot marks where the first visits to the park were allowed in the early 1920s. The lodge says it received two MICHELIN Keys in October 2025. International rack starts at R13,750 per adult sharing (January to March 2027), with meals, selected drinks, two drives a day and Skukuza Airport transfers; South Africans and SADC residents pay less. No children under 12 on the train. Choose it for the setting; skip it if you want silence, since Skukuza is the park's busiest hub.

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Kruger National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Park entryR602 per international adult per day at USD 1 = ZAR 16.65 (6 Oct 2026); R692, about $42, from 1 Nov 2026.
$36per person, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults pay $216 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

SANParks charges no vehicle fee for private cars at Kruger.

Almost every private lodge inside Kruger excludes the SANParks conservation fee from its rate, so you pay it on top for each night.
