A satellite of Orpen and, in SANParks' words, one of only two camps in the park that cater exclusively for guests with caravans and campers, with no pre-erected accommodation. It lies about 2 km east of Orpen Rest Camp on the Timbavati River; Orpen itself has no campsite on the reseller list, so this is where you camp at the Orpen Gate end of the park. Honey badgers raid food here, so keep everything locked in the car. You check in at Orpen. Choose it if you camp and enter from Hoedspruit; skip it if you need a roof. Owned and run by SANParks; its own camp page was not captured for this guide.

Campsite only: R423 (1 November to 8 December 2026 and 13 January to 18 March 2027; about $25 per site, $13 each for two) or R551 in peak. Check-in is at Orpen. Extra on top: the SANParks conservation fee (R602, about $36, per international adult per day until 31 October 2026; R692, about $42, from 1 November 2026 on figures SANParks has linked but we read through secondary sources) and SANParks' 1% community fund on accommodation and activities. SANParks says its rates and fees include VAT.

Which gate is closest to Maroela?
Orpen Gate, about 2 km west of the camp. Hoedspruit (Eastgate) Airport is about 68 km from the gate (SANParks).
Can I sleep in a tent at Maroela?
Yes, your own. Maroela takes caravans and campers only and has no pre-erected units (SANParks). The nearest roofed beds are at Orpen and at Tamboti.
