A main rest camp on the Shingwedzi River in the mopane country of the north, 71 km from Punda Maria Gate. It closed to overnight guests after the January 2026 floods and reopened on 6 March 2026. Huts from R769 a unit make it one of the cheapest roofed beds in the park, and the campsite is R410 a site on the reseller's 2026/27 list. It has the main-camp services: shop, restaurant or cafeteria, fuel, laundry and communal kitchens. SANParks runs sunrise, sunset and night drives and morning walks from here. Choose it for a quiet northern loop between Mopani and Punda Maria. Owned and run by SANParks.

What the park charges on top
The rate above buys you a bed. Kruger National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

How do I book Shingwedzi?
Through SANParks: Online Bookings at sanparks.org or Central Reservations on +27 (0)12 428 9111. SANParks opens bookings 11 months ahead, on the first working day of each month. Units may be occupied from 14:00 and must be vacated by 10:00.
Which gate is closest to Shingwedzi?
Punda Maria Gate, 71 km by SANParks' figure. At park speed limits allow at least two hours from the gate, and arrive before the camp gate closes (17:30 from May to July).
Is Shingwedzi open again after the floods?
Yes, by secondary reports it reopened to overnight guests on 6 March 2026 after closing in January. SANParks' notifications page carries the current status.
